Denver skyline with Rocky Mountains in the background

Denver has carved out a distinct identity in the US remote work landscape: a genuine tech and startup city with immediate access to world-class mountain recreation. Ski resorts are 45–90 minutes from downtown. The city sits at 5,280 feet — the altitude is real and takes 2–3 days to adjust to if you’re arriving from sea level. Colorado levies state income tax at a flat 4.4%, worth factoring into your annual budget.

Coworking Spaces

Galvanize (1644 Platte St, RiNo) is Denver’s best-known tech coworking hub. Hot desk memberships run approximately $300–$400/month as of 2026. The building hosts a coding bootcamp, startup events, and a community that skews toward developers and product builders. The RiNo (River North Art District) location puts you in the most creative and walkable part of the city.

Industry Denver (3001 Brighton Blvd, also RiNo) is a larger campus-style coworking operation with dedicated desks at approximately $400–$550/month. The space has strong infrastructure for video calls, private offices, and a bar open to members in the evenings. Multiple event spaces make it active after hours.

Thrive Workplace (multiple locations including Cherry Creek and Baker neighborhood) targets professionals and freelancers who want a quieter, more focused environment. Monthly hot desks run approximately $200–$350. The Cherry Creek location is well-positioned for professionals working with finance, healthcare, or legal clients.

WeWork Denver operates multiple locations in LoDo (Lower Downtown) and the 16th Street Mall area. Prices vary by location but expect $400–$550/month for a dedicated desk. LoDo is a strong base if you want proximity to transit and the Union Station neighborhood.

Best Cafes with Wifi

Copper Door Coffee Roasters (700 N Broadway, Baker neighborhood) is one of Denver’s best cafes for laptop work — reliable wifi, outlets throughout, and genuinely good single-origin coffee. Budget approximately $5–$8 per visit.

Hooked on Colfax (3213 E Colfax Ave) combines a cafe with a bookshop feel on the historic Colfax corridor. Good wifi, quiet weekday mornings, and an eclectic atmosphere. Colfax is one of Denver’s most walkable stretches.

Cerebral Brewing (1477 Monroe St, Congress Park) operates as both brewery and coffee program during the day. Wifi holds up well, seating is spacious, and the afternoon transition to beer service is genuinely convenient.

Onefold (1420 E 18th Ave, City Park West) is a small cafe popular with the neighborhood’s creative class. Wifi is strong, but seating is limited — arrive before 9am on weekdays. Excellent brunch food if you work through mornings.

Novo Coffee (multiple locations including RiNo and Capitol Hill) is Denver’s benchmark specialty roaster with solid wifi at most locations and comfortable seating. The RiNo location is the most practical for coworking crossover.

Average Rent (1-Bedroom)

Denver rent has stabilized somewhat after years of rapid increases, but the city remains significantly more expensive than its pre-2018 baseline. As of 2026:

  • RiNo / Five Points: approximately $1,600–$2,200/month
  • Capitol Hill / Cheesman Park: approximately $1,400–$1,900/month
  • LoDo / Union Station: approximately $1,900–$2,600/month
  • Baker / South Broadway: approximately $1,400–$1,800/month
  • Highlands / LoHi: approximately $1,700–$2,300/month

Compared to Seattle or San Francisco, these rents represent real savings — particularly in RiNo and Baker which have strong walkability and food scenes.

Cost of Living Breakdown (Monthly Estimate)

CategoryApproximate Monthly Cost
1-bed rent (Baker or Capitol Hill)$1,500–$1,900
Groceries$350–$500
Eating out (3–4x/week)$300–$500
Coworking (hot desk)$250–$400
Transport (car or transit mix)$100–$250
Utilities + internet$150–$200
Recreation (ski passes, hiking gear)$200–$500
Total estimate$2,850–$4,250

The recreation line item is real. An Ikon Pass for ski season runs approximately $1,000–$1,200 as of 2026. Split across the season, many nomads consider it a quality-of-life essential.

Internet Quality

Xfinity (Comcast) and CenturyLink (now Lumen/Quantum Fiber in some areas) are the primary home internet providers. Xfinity gigabit plans run approximately $60–$80/month after promotional periods. Quantum Fiber is available in parts of the city and offers symmetrical speeds. Coworking spaces throughout RiNo and LoDo offer reliable gigabit connections. Cafe wifi is variable — test before committing to a video call.

Visa and Entry

US citizens require no visa. Colorado has a flat state income tax rate of 4.4% on all income. If you’re a foreign national, standard US work authorization rules apply.

Neighborhood Recommendations

RiNo (River North Art District) is the top choice for nomads who want an active creative and tech community. The neighborhood has excellent walkability, the highest concentration of coworking, strong restaurant and bar options, and good transit access. It’s the closest Denver gets to an Austin East Sixth vibe.

Capitol Hill is Denver’s densest residential neighborhood with good transit, walkable groceries, and lower rents than RiNo. It suits nomads who want to live cheaply in a walkable urban environment without paying the premium for the trendier districts.

Baker / South Broadway is a quieter but increasingly popular neighborhood with independent restaurants, good cafes, and proximity to the light rail. It’s a good balance of affordability and livability.

Highlands (LoHi) offers excellent food and bar options with a more polished residential feel. Rents are higher but the neighborhood is genuinely enjoyable to live in, with walkable access to the Platte River trail system.

Mountain access from Denver is a legitimate draw. Echo Mountain and Loveland Ski Area are 45–60 minutes from RiNo. Breckenridge, Keystone, and A-Basin are 75–90 minutes. Working remotely through ski season from a Denver base is an underrated use of the setup.
