Peak Season: April–May and September

Atlanta’s spring is extraordinary. The city has one of the highest tree canopy densities of any major American city, and April brings dogwoods, redbuds, and azaleas into bloom simultaneously across Inman Park, Buckhead, and Virginia-Highland. The Atlanta Dogwood Festival in mid-April brings outdoor arts and live music to Piedmont Park. The Masters Tournament in Augusta (1.5 hours east) in April drives accommodation demand in the metro area.

September is the busiest single month for non-weather reasons. Dragon Con - one of the largest science fiction and fantasy conventions in the world - takes over downtown Atlanta over Labor Day weekend and draws 85,000+ attendees, packing every hotel within the Perimeter. Book Labor Day weekend more than six months ahead or plan to stay outside downtown.

Shoulder Season: March and October–November

March is a good shoulder month. Temperatures reach 12–18°C by late March, spring flowers begin in the Botanical Garden, and Atlanta Film Festival runs mid-March. St. Patrick’s Day on Buckhead’s bar scene is a major local event.

October offers excellent conditions: temperatures of 18–24°C, falling foliage along Peachtree Street, and a full calendar of events. The Atlanta International Wine Festival, Sweetwater 420 Festival, and A3C Hip Hop Festival all fall in October. Atlanta has grown significantly as a film production hub, and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in Sweet Auburn is less crowded than in summer.

Off Season: December–February

Atlanta’s winters are genuinely mild compared to most American cities. January averages 8°C, and snowfall is rare enough that a light dusting causes the city disproportionate disruption. The Georgia Aquarium (the world’s largest outside Asia), the World of Coca-Cola museum, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights all operate year-round and are far less crowded in winter. Hotel rates are at their lowest, and the city’s restaurant scene - increasingly recognized nationally - continues year-round.
