Sail Boston 2026: 60 Tall Ships in Boston Harbor, 11–16 July
Sail Boston 2026 — also operating under the name Sail250 as part of the United States’ 250th anniversary commemorations — opened in Boston Harbor on 11 July and runs through 16 July 2026. More than 60 tall ships from over 20 countries are participating, making it one of the largest maritime gatherings in American history.
What’s On
Parade of Sail (11 July): The opening parade brought the fleet into Boston Harbor with thousands of spectators lining the waterfront from East Boston to the Seaport. If you missed the parade, highlight footage is being broadcast at the event and on local news channels.
Ship Tours (11–16 July): Many of the participating tall ships are open to the public for self-guided or guided tours. Some require advance booking; others accept walk-up visitors. Specific ship schedules and tour availability are posted on the Sail Boston website.
Waterfront Festival: A free-admission festival runs throughout the event along the Seaport waterfront, including live entertainment, food and drink vendors, and a Ferris wheel. Entry to the festival grounds is free; individual attractions (ship tours, Ferris wheel) may carry their own costs.
Fireworks: Fireworks are scheduled as part of the programme — check the Sail Boston event schedule for specific dates and viewing locations.
International Football Tournament: A soccer tournament involving crew members from the participating ships is running as a side event across the week.
Getting There
Boston is straightforward to reach by air (Logan International Airport, BOS) and by Amtrak from New York Penn Station (Acela and Northeast Regional, approximately 3.5–4 hours). During Sail Boston, the city’s MBTA system — including the Silver Line from Logan directly to the Seaport — is the fastest way to reach the waterfront. Driving is not recommended for the duration of the event; parking around the Seaport is extremely limited.
How Long to Plan For
The fleet is in harbour through 16 July. Most visitors budget half a day to a full day for the festival, ship tours, and waterfront walk. If you are combining Sail Boston with broader Boston sightseeing — the Freedom Trail, North End, Fenway — a two-night stay covers both comfortably.
