Alaska Airlines announced on July 29, 2026 that it will launch new nonstop flights from Boise, Idaho and Spokane, Washington to Honolulu, Hawaii from December 2026. The routes give Pacific Northwest travellers their first direct access to Oahu without a connection through Seattle, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.

The New Routes

Boise (BOI) to Honolulu (HNL): Seasonal service beginning December 19, 2026, operating on Boeing 737-9 aircraft. Frequency to be confirmed.

Spokane (GEG) to Honolulu (HNL): Seasonal service beginning December 20, 2026, also on 737-9 equipment. Spokane’s route marks the first transatlantic-distance nonstop flight to operate from Spokane International Airport in recent memory.

Both routes are positioned for the winter holiday travel surge, when demand for Hawaii from the Pacific Northwest peaks. Fares go on sale immediately, with Alaska’s saver fares available through the airline’s website.

What This Means for Boise Travellers

Boise has been one of the fastest-growing US cities of the 2020s, and its aviation market has expanded accordingly. The addition of a direct Hawaii route removes a practical friction point that has historically sent Boise travellers to Seattle or Portland to connect to Honolulu. The nonstop flight time from Boise to Honolulu is approximately 5 hours 30 minutes — competitive with connecting itineraries via the Pacific Coast hubs and considerably more convenient.

Honolulu and Oahu in December

Honolulu in December is peak season. Winter is Hawaii’s high season, driven by mainland visitors fleeing cold weather and school holiday travel. Oahu’s beaches — Waikiki, Kailua, Lanikai — are busy but operational, and the North Shore surf season (November–February) is in full swing, with professional surfing events at Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach typically running through December.

Visitors planning the December peak should book accommodation early. Hotel rates in Waikiki during the holiday fortnight are among the highest of the year, and rental cars — historically in tight supply in Hawaii — should be reserved well in advance.

Alaska’s Hawaii Strategy

The Boise and Spokane additions are part of Alaska Airlines’ ongoing push to deepen its Hawaii network beyond the established Seattle-Hawaii trunk routes. Alaska operates the densest Hawaii schedule of any US carrier from the Pacific Northwest, and smaller-city origins are a stated priority for expanding its Mileage Plan programme.

For Alaska MVP Gold and MVP Gold 75K members, the new routes qualify for upgrade consideration and premium cabin access under standard programme rules.

Booking

Tickets are on sale now through Alaska Airlines directly. Award space has been released on both routes for Mileage Plan redemptions. The airline’s Best Fare Finder tool shows availability from mid-December 2026 onward.

Travellers planning the Hawaii trip as part of a broader US trip can connect in Boise or Spokane from Alaska’s extensive inter-mountain west network, which covers Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and other hub cities.
