Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival 2026: Macbeth and Robin Hood at Sand Harbor Through August
The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is running through 21 August 2026 at Sand Harbor State Park on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, presenting two productions this season: Macbeth and The Heart of Robin Hood. Performances began on 3 July and continue for seven weeks, making this one of the longest-running outdoor theatre events in the Western United States.
The Festival Setting
Sand Harbor is routinely described as one of the most scenic outdoor theatre venues anywhere in the country. The stage is built on the lakeside, with Lake Tahoe’s impossibly clear blue water - and, on clear evenings, the granite ridgeline of the Sierra Nevada - visible from every seat. Performances begin in the early evening, when the lake light is at its most dramatic, and the natural amphitheatre provides good acoustics.
The Nevada State Park setting means visitors can combine festival attendance with a full afternoon at the beach: Sand Harbor has swimming, kayaking, and paddleboard rentals available through the park concession.
The 2026 Productions
Macbeth returns to the Tahoe stage as a production designed for the outdoor lakeside environment. The play’s themes of ambition and nature translate naturally to a mountain setting.
The Heart of Robin Hood is a musical adaptation of the legend, offering a lighter counterpoint to the Scottish tragedy. It has become a festival favourite for families and groups looking for a more accessible evening of theatre.
