Charlotte is the largest city in the Carolinas and the second-largest financial center in the US after New York - which means the hotel stock is built primarily for business travelers, but the leisure visitor benefits from high inventory and competitive rates. Uptown is the center for both business and tourism; South End has emerged as the best neighborhood for dining and nightlife; and NoDa (North Davidson Arts District) is worth a half-day or evening for its galleries and independent restaurants.

Booking tips
Charlotte rates are lowest on weekends (business travel drops off sharply) and highest Sunday through Thursday. Spectrum Center concerts and Panthers home games push Uptown rates up quickly - check the schedule for your dates. The city is expanding fast and hotel inventory has grown substantially in recent years, keeping prices competitive. Book two to three weeks ahead for most weekends; Levine Center for the Arts events and major sports playoffs are the main exceptions.
