Best Hotels in Tampa
Where to Stay in Tampa
Tampa’s hotel landscape has been significantly upgraded since 2020, primarily through the Water Street Tampa development — a multi-billion-dollar mixed-use district southeast of downtown that added the JW Marriott, the Marriott Water Street, and a Hewing Hotel to the city’s upper-mid and luxury tiers. The established options in Hyde Park and downtown remain strong, and Ybor City has a small but credible mid-range selection. We cover the best options at every tier.
Luxury Hotels
JW Marriott Tampa Water Street — 510 Water St, Channel District. The anchor hotel of the Water Street Tampa development, and the most polished luxury option in the city. The 519-room tower has a large pool deck on the sixth floor, the Donatello Italian restaurant and a lobby bar, and a location that is a short walk from Amalie Arena, the Tampa Bay History Center, and the Florida Aquarium. Rates approximately $280–$500 per night as of 2026.
Marriott Tampa Water Street — 505 Water St. The JW’s adjacent sister property in the same development complex, with 727 rooms and a slightly lower price point. Connected to the JW Marriott’s pool deck and amenities by a skybridge. Rates approximately $200–$380 per night as of 2026.
Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay — 2900 Bayport Dr, Westshore/Airport area. A 445-room resort-style hotel on a 35-acre mangrove preserve along Tampa Bay’s eastern shore, approximately midway between the airport and downtown. The setting — with egrets, ospreys, and manatees visible from the bayside terrace — is unique among Tampa hotels. The hotel includes a marina, a spa, a tennis facility, and the Armani’s rooftop restaurant. Rates approximately $200–$380 per night as of 2026.
Boutique Hotels
Epicurean Hotel — 1207 S Howard Ave, Hyde Park. A 137-room boutique hotel built explicitly around a food-and-drink theme in the Hyde Park neighborhood — the lobby features wine storage behind floor-to-ceiling glass, the Élevage restaurant operates on the main floor, and the on-site cooking school (Epicurean Theatre) runs regular classes for guests and non-guests. The rooftop Keel and Curley Wine Bar is a draw. Hyde Park is the best neighborhood in Tampa for dining (Bern’s Steak House is one block north), and the hotel leverages that location well. Rates approximately $220–$380 per night as of 2026.
Le Méridien Tampa — 601 N Florida Ave, Downtown. A 130-room hotel in the restored 1905 Federal Courthouse building — 18-foot courtroom-height ceilings, marble floors, and original architectural details converted into a genuinely striking hotel interior. The Cigar City Brewing Bar in the lobby is one of the better hotel bars in downtown Tampa. Rates approximately $180–$320 per night as of 2026.
Aloft Tampa Downtown — 200 N Ashley Dr, Downtown. A reliable upper-mid boutique in a central downtown location; the rooftop pool deck has views of the Hillsborough River. Rates approximately $130–$220 per night as of 2026.
Mid-Range Hotels
Embassy Suites Tampa Downtown Convention Center — 513 S Florida Ave. A 360-suite all-suite hotel directly connected to the Tampa Convention Center and within easy walking of the Riverwalk. Free evening reception and cooked-to-order breakfast included; well-suited to families or multi-night business stays. Rates approximately $160–$280 per night as of 2026.
Hampton Inn Ybor City — 1301 E 7th Ave, Ybor City. The best-located hotel for visitors whose primary interest is Ybor City’s nightlife and cultural district. Standard Hampton Inn quality at a price point below downtown hotels; the streetcar stop is steps from the entrance. Rates approximately $110–$190 per night as of 2026.
Hilton Tampa Downtown — 211 N Tampa St. A 517-room full-service hotel in central downtown, consistently reliable and a short walk from the Riverwalk, Amalie Arena, and the Straz Center. Rates approximately $140–$240 per night as of 2026.
Tampa Airport Marriott — Tampa International Airport (connected to the main terminal). Approximately $150–$250 per night as of 2026. For travelers with very early departures or late arrivals; the connection to the terminal by internal walkway is genuinely convenient.
Choosing a Neighborhood
Downtown/Water Street is the right choice for visitors focused on the Riverwalk, Amalie Arena, and the Florida Aquarium. It is Tampa’s most connected area for walking.
Hyde Park is better for visitors who want immediate access to the best restaurants in the city (Bern’s Steak House, Haven, and the South Howard Avenue corridor are all walkable) without the convention-center density of downtown.
Ybor City makes sense if your evenings will center on 7th Avenue bars, the Columbia Restaurant, and the nightlife district. It is 15 minutes by streetcar from downtown, which keeps daytime options accessible.
Westshore/Airport area (Grand Hyatt, airport hotels) trades urban accessibility for lower rates and easier airport connections. Best for business travelers on short stays.
Practical Booking Notes
Super Bowl: Tampa has hosted the Super Bowl several times (most recently in 2021) and will likely host again; when the Super Bowl is scheduled for Raymond James Stadium, the entire metro area books out months ahead and rates multiply. Check NFL scheduling if your dates are in early February.
Lightning playoffs: Tampa Bay Lightning playoff games in April–June can spike hotel rates in the Channelside/Water Street area. Check the NHL schedule.
Airport transfers: Most Tampa hotels are 10–20 minutes from Tampa International Airport; rideshares typically cost approximately $15–$25 to downtown hotels as of 2026, making the rental car optional if your itinerary is centered on Tampa itself.
